BIG Laundry Solutions
for the LITTLE Dorm Room
|
Shop at Clares has laundry solutions, hampers, indoor drying racks, portable
ironing boards and more to help you take care of your laundry while in the dorm
and away at college. We have decades of experience with those little dorm rooms!
To prepare yourself for this adventure, we highly recommend that you move into
your home closet for about 4 weeks prior to arriving at school. We promise that
this will help make your dorm room seem HUGE.
Taking laundry home every weekend for your mom to do is not a solution! First
of all, you will need a place to throw the dirty laundry and the floor is no
longer an option, since you will no longer have floor space. We have a variety
of
laundry bags and hampers that are popular with the college crowd as well
as our post graduates! Many of these serve as a hamper and easily transport
to the Laundromat or laundry room.
Hopefully you know the ins and outs of how to wash your clothes. If not you
will have to take it as an elective or find a neat freak to do it for you. Should
you chose the do-it-yourself laundry path, we have some suggestions about how
to avoid the frustrations associated with doing laundry. Be forewarned that
clothing left in a washer or dryer in a shared laundry area may not end up back
in YOUR closet. Take a text book with you and study while waiting for your laundry
(we had to throw that in).
Little loads of wash cost just as much as the full loads, so we recommend that
your share the washer with a friend. Place your smaller articles of clothing
like tops, hosiery and underwear in
mesh wash bags. Not only does this make sorting your clothes easier, it
also cuts down on the wear and tear of your clothes. Mesh bags come in all sorts
of shapes and sizes and have many other uses, like washing sweaters.
SAVE MONEY and time by air drying your clothes. The question is how to do that
when you don’t have a yard and your dorm room is already crammed with real essentials
for college. The answer is
portable folding drying racks! These are very economical, easy to setup,
take up very little space and fold-away to store in your closet or under your
bed.
Finally, the necessary evil – IRONING. In a dorm this seems almost impossible,
but believe us, there are ways. An over the door ironing board is one solution,
but our favorites are the
tabletop ironing boards and if you are really strapped for space, clear
off the desk and use an ironing blanket.

Setup a Functional
Laundry Room
|
Shop At Clares is a great place to research and purchase items to set
up a functional laundry area. Laundry is one of those things that we have to
do, like it or not, so why not make it easier, efficient, and less of a chore.
First you need to have something to gather all that dirty laundry and we offer
several types of hampers and sorters in pop-up, rigid, basket, and canvas styles.
Depending on how much clothing you have and often you do laundry will determine
size of hamper you need. Most single hampers hold about two loads of laundry
and if every family member has their own hamper you will be fine.. Some customers
even have two hampers – one for the regular washing machine and one for items
they need to hand wash or dry clean. We even offer 2, 3 and 4 bin hampers.
Next you have to get all that laundry to the washer and dryer, and it’s important
to have the area organized for efficiency and available work space. For that
little space between the washer and dryer a slide out laundry cart is the perfect
organizer. Utilize that gap between the washer/dryer and the wall with a easy
to hang wire shelf. A hamper/sorter with multiple bins is another best seller
for us and a great way to keep the laundry room organized and neat.
How you wash your clothes is your business. We are only offering ideas on how
to make this chore easier for you. How you dry your clothes is a whole other
issue. If you choose to only use the electric or gas dryer, then we recommend
something like the Laundry Center Triple 3 Bin Sorter w/ Bar in Commercial Chrome
by Whitney Design to hang up your clothes as they come out of the dryer. If
you like to be eco-friendly and hang your clothing outside in the fresh air,
we have a huge selection of outdoor dryers in all shapes and sizes. If you don’t
have a huge amount of laundry to hang outside, then a retractable dryer would
certainly meet your needs.
Back to our original intent to organize your laundry area… we have many small,
space saving dryers and suggestions on how to use the space on the dryer. Indoor
dryers that we carry come in the form of portable fold-away dryers, or multi-line
retractable mini dryers. We recommend drying shirts on non-metal hangers, not
only will this save space on the clothesline, but the shirt may require little
or no ironing. Other great accessories to make the best use of your drying space
are inflatable hangers, hanging carousel dryers, and hooked clothespins, all
of which are very popular items for drying your laundry. The hooked clothespins
are especially versatile because you can hang items on your closet or shower
rod. You will, of course, need clothes pins for attaching the clothing to your
clothesline, whether it is inside or outside. We have wooden and plastic clothespins
in several different styles and package sizes.
Finally (almost), we can address the ironing issue. Many people do ironing in
their laundry room, while some people prefer elsewhere near a television set
or stereo, as a way to amuse themselves during this rather mundane chore. Free
standing ironing boards come in all shapes and sizes, with a variety of replacement
ironing board covers to suit your needs and décor. These free standing boards
are also terrific when used as a flat surface for folding clothes If you would
rather have the ironing board out of sight after each use, then we have several
stowaways; the Better Lifestyle boards are highly recommended by us and by our
customers.
