Golf Club Warehouse Club Selection Guide
Welcome to the Golf Club Warehouse club selection guide. We understand that selecting the correct golf club for your swing can be difficult. So we have provided some useful guidelines below to make your decision a little simpler.
We also understand that golfers and manufacturers use a lot of jargon that is not always clear. So we have provided a glossary of common golf terms.
Please note that these are guidelines only. Every golf swing is unique, and many golfers have personal preferences. Club specifications also vary by manufacturer, thus the word ‘standard’ is used very loosely in the industry.

Custom Fitting
Golf Club Warehouse recommends having your clubs customised if you are a serious player, very short or very tall.
If you are a weekend golfer then standard issue clubs will do the job just fine.
If you do wish to have them customised, we recommend taking your new clubs to your local club professional.
They can measure you up, have a look at your swing, and do a professional job.
With all the money you will save by shopping with Golf Club Warehouse,
you’ll have enough left over to get your clubs customised, get a few lessons if you need them, and still have money left over.
Glossary of Terms
Bounce
The amount of the trailing edge of the club which is below the leading edge.
Cast Irons
Most irons on the market are cast (in a mold) with cavity backs. The casting process allows manufacturers to distribute the weight of the club for optimum forgiveness.
Cavity Back
The term for a golf club that has a hollowed out section at the back of the iron head.
CC’s or Cubic Centimeters
The CC of a wood is the volume of the head, measured in cubic centimeters.
Flex
Flex is a measure of the stiffness of the golf club shaft. Generally, stiffer shafts are for stronger hitters. The flex of your shorter irons, wedges and putter are not that important. It pays to get the flex of your driver, fairway woods and long irons suited to your swing speed and ability.
Forged Irons
Forged Irons are made from softer steels that provide better feel and feedback. They are more difficult to hit, and not suited to higher handicap golfer. They are ideally suited accomplished golfers with very consistent repeatable swings.
Forged Titanium
Made with the forging process to produce forgiving drivers and fairway woods while optimising distance.
Graphite is a carbon material ideal for making golf club shafts. It is lighter than steel, but just as strong. As a result it increases the amount of club head speed at impact, which increases your distance. Graphite is almost exclusively used in woods and drivers today. Many golfers still prefer steel shafts for irons. Graphite is ideal for all clubs used by seniors, ladies, juniors and golfers with hand, wrist, arm or shoulder ailments.
Heel-Toe-Weighting
The weight is distributed to the heel and toe areas of the club to expand the effective hitting area.
Lie
This is the measurement of the angle that is formed by the shaft when the club head is resting on the ground.
Loft
The angle of the face of the club. The higher the loft angle, the higher the ball will go in the air. Long hitting irons have a lower loft than short irons.
Low Centre of Gravity
The weight of the club is shifted to the bottom of the club. This helps keep the club head down at impact and helps get the ball in the air faster. This is often achieved with Tungsten inserts.
Offset
A club is offset if the club head is set slightly behind the line of the shaft. Offset clubs allow your hands to get though the impact zone earlier in your swing. Offset clubs are generally used by players with a natural fade or small slice.
Perimeter Weighting
The weight of a perimeter weighted club is positioned around the perimeter of the club head, not the center. This means that the sweet spot is extended. As a result the club will be more forgiving. You will lose a small amount of distance from perfectly hit shots, but gain distance on miss hits.
